About CGC

Canterbury Gymnastics was established in the 1970's and has moved around different locations in Canterbury until finding a new permanent home in 2014. Aurelia Mattioli took over the running of the Club 2002 and has been instrumental in its growth and facilitating a new home.  With our new home in Wincheap came the new name of CGC Leisure LTD.

We offer recreational and competitive sporting opportunities for all those who want to take part, while encouraging more children and adults to participate.  Our aim is to look after and promote values of equal opportunity, open-mindedness and friendship.  We strongly believe that every child has different qualities which will enable them to flourish in our sport.

All staff, coaches & volunteers are registered and insured members of British Gymnastics.  They are fully trained and have completed safeguarding and enhanced DBS checks.  All of our coaches have passed their coaching qualifications and keep up to date with new training information or they are working towards them under the supervision of qualified coaches.

The Club runs the British Gymnastics Young Leadership Academy, of which we have a group of approximately 15 members aged 11+.  The Academy is a great success with one of our members, Phoebe Blair (13), being awarded the British Gymnastics National Young Volunteer of the Year 2017.  Some of our Young Leaders are qualified in First Aid and are Award Scheme coaches.

Our club has had recent successes at the South East Men's Artistic Championships with William Norton and Oliver Smith becoming the south east champions for under 12 and under 16 respectively.

Our coaches have also had success with Joshua Anelay, our head MAG coach, being nominated and shortlisted for British Gymnastics Community Coach of the Year 2023.

Canterbury Gymnastics Club has always been connected with some of the local schools and we have some great partnership programmes in place. We have had great success within the BSGA competitions, with Canterbury Academy's U19 Mixed Team being National Champions 2017.   If you are a school and interested in finding out more about how you can increase gymnastics within your school please get in touch!

The Club is continually expanding and we are always looking at new ways in which to grow and improve.
